Thanks so much! You're a VERY good teacher! I've subscribed. See you again.
Awesome, thank you!
Wow so beautiful. Thank you for another fab tutorial. Love you used a heat gun. Guessing it only works on very thin solder wire. May I ask what the jump rings are that you were bending into place please.
Thanks. The heat gun only works with the 300* solder. The thickness is really important. The melting point is. The jump rings used are plated brass.
Thank you. The solder used is 300* solder. The thickness is not really important. It is the melting point that is important. The jump rings used are plated brass.
Thanks ever so much 😊
Hola, por favor alguien podría decirme como se llama esa masa o plastilina que utiliza para sostener las piezas PLEASE
It is just playdo or any other non-drying craft dough.
Quick Question, how would you set bigger stones then? By hand, I find that they don't stay really well...?
Yes. You have to set the larger stones by hand.
oh thank you!!! I was wondering how people do it! Thanks!
Ohhh I would love this tool ❤❤❤ I tried to put one gemstone back on the chain which came off. Very hard to set it without any tool and gave up 😂
Excellent video and info, thank you!
Can you make a band with just using the stones. I would like to make an eternity band if it's possible to do with the stones.
It can probably be done but it would be difficult and bulky.
Beautiful designs and intricate effort. Thank you for uploading your knowledge.🎉
Amazing tutorial. Thank you ❤️
Hi, what is the difference between to use the heat or welder? Thanks
The heat gun is a lower temperature heat source. So, you are able to solder the settings without ruining the plating. The torch is a little higher temperature heat source. With the higher heat source you have more options because you are generally using brass. I like the extensive variety available with the brass. However, to have a professional finished product you would need to send your pieces off to a plater. Jan
I did what you did and I can't get it to solder. Us the metal pieces stainless steel? The one I bought is stainless steel 🤦🏿♀️. It's a stubborn piece to solder
I would like to help. However, you have not given me enough information to work with. Can you provide me with more information and i will see if i can help.
The metal back I bought from Amazon, It's stainless steel. I used handy flux and solder with rosin core in it. It wouldn't solder it just balls up.
If the settings are stainless steel then my best guess is that your solder melts at a higher temperature that your heat source can supply. Jan
The solder melts at 475°
Very pretty ear rings.
Thank you! 😊
Hi! I have a troubleshooting question. In the past I have bought stones and backs separately and the flux has flowed just fine. I recently bought stones preset to save me time, but no matter how long I heat the setting for, the flux wire just melts into a ball and sits on the pieces rather than actually molding and adhering to the setting. I’m assuming the backing is not compatible with my flux as the flux nor the heat gun are the problem. I wish there was a full proof way to tell if the setting will be able to get soldered together without purchasing. I also have zero clue what to do with the hundreds of rhinestones I purchased since I can’t solder them
can you contact the people you bought the settings from and ask them what they are made of. I am guessing they are made of aluminum and not meant to be soldered.

Best guess is the solder you are using melts at a higher temperature than your heat source or your piece is somehow being insulated so it can't get hot enough to get the solder to flow.
Hello! what kind of tin do you use? with resin? or acid core? My pieces oxidize with resin tin, I don't know what to do!!! :(
I am not sure what you are referring to. The solder we carry has a rosin core and the settings are brass or plated brass. I have never had any of my pieces oxidize.
Gorgeous!
Beautiful! Do you have any advice on keeping heavy earrings from slipping off your ears?
I know a lot of performers that either make their earrings or have them made with an ear clip post combo. They either use the omega clips (which are hard to find). Or they use ear clips that are pieced at the tip of the paddle and add a post.
@@Jansjewels After asking around! A lot of performers have told me they put nail glue or spirit gum (wig glue) on their ears sometimes to keep earrings from slipping while they are doing a dance performance. Amazing! haha
Yes that is true. i assume there is a learning curve with that as I see some who do that and have scabs on their ears and others that do not.
thank you for the video! you got me into this but what i can’t figure out is how to get the solder to stick to the rhinestones, as the metal back is polished and the solder just runs off 🥲 any tips for this? thank you!
Your solder will not stick to the rhinestones. You are soldering the settings not the stones. If you solder is not sticking to the settings something is wrong. Either the settings are aluminum or something else that can't be soldered or your solder has a high melting point and will not melt.
What is this cap called
It is just referred to as a bead cap. Some people may call them chain ends.
Waooo ❤
What is the name of the dough used?
Playdoh or any non-drying craft clay.
What is the name of the dough used?
It is playdo. However you can use any non drying craft dough.
Can you please make this a kit? Thanks ❤
I made up some of these kits last week. You can find them at the following url> www.jansjewels.com/Soldering-Kits_c_665-3-4.html
Beautiful!
Thank you!!!
Can you solder the rhinestone cup chain to the brass cuffs or to the brass
Yes. You can solder to brass, copper or steel.
Thank you
What kind of solder do you use

Wow, that's a statement piece for sure!
You are such a good instructor!!! Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
This is my first time seeing a heat gun used in this way. This is so cool! Or should I say HOT?
It is a great way to solder when you want a finished piece quickly.
Hi Jan, love your videos! I finally found the exact info I was looking for. Can you recommend a lead free wire? Thanks in advance
I can recommend item number 0612-27 at jansjewels.com. However, it is difficult to use with a heat gun since its melting point is 440*. I works better with a torch but, then you can't use plated settings. You would need to use brass and then send the finished piece off to be plated. Jan
Hello, I love the video and it’s exactly what I needed to know. I was wondering if you could recommend a lead free wire option. Thank you in advance.
Here is a link to some lead free solder wire. www.jansjewels.com/20ft-THIN-Lead-Free-Solder-Wire_p_42141.html However, it is very difficult to use with the heat gun because its melting point is *440 and the heat gun really only heats to *350. The heat does accumulate but, it takes a long time and puts the plating under stress by applying all of that heat. If you are wanting lead fee you would do better to work in brass and send your pieces off to be plated. Jan
How do I get a kit?
The kits are located at the following url: www.jansjewels.com/jewelry-making-kits-for-soldering.html Jan
Thanx for sharing, you are doing a great job Plz can you show as a royal crown just with perles like the turkich crowns
Sorry. I have a long list of projects to do and crowns are not one of them. Unfortunately I don't see me doing any crowns any time in the near future. Jan
Is the cap top able to be soldered?
Many bead cap are. However, I think the ones I used for that video may have been aluminium which can not be soldered.
Hi from MOROCCO
Hello! Thanks for watching.
Omgosh I’ve missed watching you create things
Thanks! Now that I have the video editing figured out there should be many more. However, mine will pale in comparison to the ones that John edited for me. However, I will do my best.
@@Jansjewels you were going to have to teach me how to do this editing
Still learning myself but, I would be happy to when you are in town and have time. Jan
I love it, so pretty. I always learn something from your videos. Thank you so much for sharing.

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS…My boyfriend has purchased for my birthday I October of 2023 and for Christmas 2023 more items…and I’m LOVING IT. THANKS for posting and having a website that’s fairly easy to navigate.
Great to hear. Thanks so much!
Didja solder the jump ring too?
yes
Im a beginner in making this jewelry...how hot is your heat gun? Ive been told that I only need 300°>
They are suppose to get ups to 350*. However, if you leave the heat gun in one place to long the heat will increase a bit more than that.
They turned out really pretty. I've never seen someone solder with a heat gun before, that's awesome!
I was told years ago that it could not be done with plated settings. However, when I was doing classes I had a lady on oxygen who wanted to solder. So, I just figured it out playing around with some embossing powder on some stones one day.
Great tips thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Jan, you are the last bastion of this craft in authentic way! thank you for carrying the torch!
Wow, thank you!
